This Professional Development Session will explore a focus on supporting recoverees, and their specific needs as they return to communities after engagement with the justice system.

Recovery Support Professionals provide support for recoverees during vulnerable moments, where gaining trust can sometimes be increasingly difficult, while also trying to maintain a positive and specific focus based on previous life experiences. Engagement with the justice system creates and results in specific challenges for these recoverees.

This session offers an opportunity to hear directly from individuals that have this lived experience by way of a documentary. The documentary "From Tragedy to Triumph" was created and filmed in 2022, as part of a Crime Reduction project. The goal of this documentary is to provide an opportunity to listen to conversations amongst individuals with this lived experience and honor their honesty as they shared not just their lives, but also possible solutions from their lived advantage.

There will be a Talk-Back time after the viewing and discussion around strategies for providing intentional support and services to recoverees that share similar experiences as the gentlemen in the documentary.

This session will close with information shared from and about the IRACS team, our statewide resource that specializes in support to recoverees with this experience.
