Understanding and contextualising the social harms facing care experienced young people in Scotland and Wales

Wed 12 Feb 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM GMT

Online, Teams

Much research has been published which indicates that young people who become care experienced can be faced with many challenges. Some of these challenges are long lasting and complex: additionally, many of these challenges are invisible or hidden. Research undertaken at Swansea University in collaboration with CYCJ has sought to explore and contextualise the social harms faced by children in Scotland and Wales. Adopting a novel zemiological analysis, the research has engaged with individuals in both nations to explore the experiences of those who become care experienced and those who are charged with protecting and supporting them. Drawing directly on the voices (often passionate) of those who participated in the research, this webinar will offer new insights into care for young people across Wales and Scotland, exposing social harms affecting the young people, identifying what participants considered to be effective practice and considering the types of changes which are still needed in this critical area of policy.

Who is this most relevant for:

This webinar may be especially appropriate for social workers, youth workers, youth participation workers, academics engaged in research concerning children’s rights, local government policy makers and those who directly provide care to children.

Important Info:

This webinar will be recorded and shared on the CYCJ website. Cameras and mics will be switched off to all attendees, only the speakers and organisers of the event will have their cameras on.

Due to the nature of this webinar some attendees may find that the accounts of those who have been in care are powerful and could be  triggering.

All registered attendees will be contacted with team's link 24 hours before each session. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact cycj@strath.ac.uk.
