This RAN LOCAL meeting will build on the insights gathered in the 2018 RAN LOCAL meeting titled What can we learn from adjacent phenomena?
Specifically, the meeting will look at local crime prevention approaches and what and how we can learn from them in the context of preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE). The focus in particular will be on crime prevention approaches in the following three areas:
- Domestic violence: the intergenerational transmission of domestic violence.
- Human trafficking: the criminal exploitation of vulnerable people for the sole purpose of economic gain (not human smuggling).
- Cybercrime: the work being done online to prevent or counter crimes like identity theft, data breaches, online sexual abuse or cyberstalking.
Participants will discuss which strategies, interventions and structures are used to prevent domestic violence, human trafficking and cybercrime. The similarities and differences between local P/CVE approaches and crime prevention approaches and what we can learn from them in the context of P/CVE work.
Furthermore, we will collect tips and insights on how to make use of crime prevention programmes and transfer these to a P/CVE context. This will feed into a conclusion paper for local P/CVE coordinators.
