Summary:
In this webinar Dr Delmage will discuss the international picture and the numerous variations in approach to criminal responsibility in children, with some brief thinking about where these variations come from. He will consider various countries’ management of those under the MACR, and will include some thoughts about the future. He will also cover some of the economic outcomes, whilst acknowledging that these outcomes are extraordinarily hard to measure in a meaningful fashion.
Bio:
Dr Enys Delmage is an adolescent forensic psychiatrist and honorary senior lecturer based in Ngā Taiohi, a secure inpatient service for young people, and is based in Porirua, New Zealand. He provides reports for Courts and has also done inreach work into secure institutions, and with the police in relation to children at risk of mass casualty events. He has a specific interest in the interface between young people and the law, and his research is predominantly focussed on the minimum age of criminal responsibility internationally.
