In December 2022 CYCJ ran its first two-day training course on the speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) of children and young people in conflict with the law. In light of the positive feedback received we are now offering this course again in May 2023.
The vast majority of children and young people in the justice system present with speech, language and communication needs. This two-day training course is for practitioners who wish to raise their awareness and understanding of SLCN of children and young people in conflict with the law, with a focus on upholding their rights.
Day 1 will focus on the practicalities of SLCNs – awareness and prevention, the impact of trauma and adversity, how can systems and processes be safe, supportive and accessible?
Day 2 will focus on how practitioners can uphold the rights of those children in conflict with the law, including how children would like practitioners to work with them in meeting their communication needs.
This exciting course enables participants to exchange knowledge and experience, whilst reflecting and sharing practice to raise awareness of SLCNs, through the use of case studies, research and tools specifically designed for working with children with communications needs.
The cost per delegate is £285. Deadline for booking your place is May 9th.
