2021 Racial and Ethnic Disparities Conference

Each year, CJJ hosts a conference focusing specifically on the issue of racial and ethnic disparities in the youth legal system. These conferences give stakeholders from across the country an opportunity to share strategies and explore solutions to this serious problem. To view a draft of the agenda click here

CJJ’s 2021 National Racial and Ethnic Disparities Conference will focus on ways that young people and their communities, as well as law enforcement, court officials, advocacy groups, and State Advisory Groups can work together to combat R/ED. Specifically, the conference will ask presenters and attendees to consider:

  • What changes can be made at the system’s front end to reduce R/ED?
  • How can youth advocates, law enforcement, attorneys, the judiciary, and community leaders work together to combat the crisis?
  • What role does data collection play in eliminating R/ED, and how can collection be improved?
  • What lessons have we learned from the pandemic and how can we use these lessons to address and end racial inequities in our education and youth legal systems?
