The JUSTICIA European Rights Network welcomes you to our online portal. Here you can access the most useful information on EU criminal justice, specifically on Procedural and Defence Rights, and the Rights of Victims of Crime.

Recent developments under EU law to protect the rights of victims of crime, in addition to measures to protect the rights of accused and suspected persons in criminal proceedings, will have a significant impact on domestic criminal law, policy and practice throughout the European Union. More information about these measures and their impact within Network Member Organisations’ Member States can be found here.

Since the European Commission granted the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) a significant operating grant in July 2012, the ICCL has taken the lead in the newly formalised JUSTICIA European Rights Network consisting of the 17 Network Member organisations listed below. Work is ongoing in preparing the Network’s projected activities such as holding training seminars and conferences; producing various publications; engaging in collective lobbying in the area of EU criminal justice, as well as developing this EU Justice portal.

The portal has been designed as a primary resource for a select range of materials and information on EU criminal justice and will be updated regularly. This portal will make it easier for citizens, victims of crime, accused and suspected persons, legal practitioners, researchers, policy makers and other interested parties to access a wide range of materials including EU legislation, press statements, factsheets, academic research, relevant case law.
