Youth against violence: Romania

UNICEF

Abstract

Ioana Barbu lives in Bucharest, Romania. When she was just 11, Ioana volunteered to work with orphaned and homeless children in her city. Today, she works for Save the Children teaching young people about their rights. She travelled to New York in May 2006 to participate in the United Nations Secretary-General's Study on Violence against Children.

"Parents always give this argument when they are arguing with children – they ask them to put themselves in their place," says Ioana. "But it happens very often that the parents don't try to put themselves in the place of the child."
