What we do

The International Juvenile Justice Observatory (IJJO) constitutes a permanent international virtual space that serves as a point of encounter for the work and reflection of professionals, administrations and organizations involved in the field of juvenile justice. In different countries it enhances global, national and local analyses of the phenomenon, analysing the different ways in which young people come into conflict with the law, examining not only the aspects that these manifestations have in common, but also the way in which the causes of the phenomenon differ.

The organization of events, seminars, workshops, courses and the participation in international and European programmes allow the dissemination of relevant information, experience, works and materials that have been produced as a result of initiatives taken by the Observatory, or by individuals or bodies working independently of it.

Cooperation to development - IJJO Events and Programmes

September 2012 Adolescent, Child, Cooperation to development, Law

The IIN is the specialized organization of the OAS in the field of childhood and adolescence. It assists OAS states in developing public policies and contributes to their design and implementation from the perspective of the promotion, protection and respect of rights of children and adolescents in the region.
As a result of their good relationship in recent years, as well as the mutual lines of action and priorities in the field of improving the situation of Latin-American children in situation of social exclusion and in conflict with law, this July, the Inter-American Children´s Institute (IIN) and the International Juvenile Justice Observatory decided to formalize their relationship. Thus, they established common points of development activities focused on the professional training in juvenile justice, the investigation of the phenomenon of juvenile delinquency and the regional legislative framework, among others. The cooperation agreement between the two entities was signed by their legal representatives, María de los Dolores Aguilar Marmolejo (Director General of the Inter-American Children's Institute) and Cristina Goñi (Secretary General of the IJJO).
